Topography, borders, and trade across Europe

چکیده

We create a novel data set on the European river network and for ruggedness of trade routes between countries integrate these new indicators into recently developed structural gravity models. Moreover, we propose approach how to differentiate contemporaneous historical costs. Applying two-stage estimations, assess impact topography by combining worldwide, European, domestic data. While border effect estimates remain largely robust, main part costs usually attributed non-contiguity can be accounted topography. Finally, counterfactual simulations suggest that positive effects rivers are less important than negative mountains.

Boring European Borders?! Integration and Mobility across Borders

This paper discusses the apparent stubbornness of immobility that exists in the European Union. Two concepts are introduced, indifference and unfamiliarity, this way trying to understand border effects, especially in Europe and the European Union. From this it ...

Side-Channel Leakage across Borders

More and more embedded devices store sensitive information that is protected by means of cryptography. The confidentiality of this data is threatened by information leakage via side channels like the power consumption or the electromagnetic radiation. In this paper, we show that the side-channel leakage in the power consumption is not limited to the power-supply lines and that any input/output ...
